Hello, I'm Kim Barnes. I'm a certified nurse midwife. I have been in this field for 18 years. I enjoy working with women and encouraging them to become an active part in their healthcare decisions.

A midwife is a healthcare professional that works with women from usually around age 14 through menopause. That includes the childbearing years. Basically we work with a woman to help them make informed healthcare decisions and hopefully get them the healthcare that they deserve.

We do birth babies, but we also do a wide spectrum of things just from annuals to problem visits. We do do childbirth visits and education and labor and delivery. We do all of the women healthcare needs.

So I always knew that I wanted to be somehow involved with babies. So I started as a NICU nurse taking care of sick babies. And then I transitioned to taking care of the laboring mother and found that that was my true passion is helping women in the most vulnerable time that they can have. And then at that point, I decided that I just wanted to be able to do all of it. I wanted to help take care of the mom, take care of the baby. So I knew that midwifery was where I needed to go.

I'm from Elizabethtown, Kentucky. I got my associate's degree from Elizabethtown Community College, my bachelor's degree from Indiana Westland University and my master's degree from Frontier Nursing University. I worked in the Elizabethtown area for the last 17 years and was just looking for a little bit of a change of pace. For fun, I spend time with my family. I love to vacation. I love to read a good book. I also just like to watch Netflix and hang out on my couch.
