Tomato Pulao Recipe-Mumbai Street Food | टोमेटो पुलाव | Tawa Pulao | Lunch Box Recipe
Tomato pulao is a very simple, quick and easy recipe. It is basically Mumbai street style pulao, where we cook it on tawa/kadhai (wok), so you can name it after tawa pulao too. Only the main ingredient is tomato which brings a tangy flavor to the rice and of course famous pav bhaji masala (spice) I have used to give Mumbai street style taste.
Serves: 3-4 people
Ingredients: (1 cup= 240 ml approx.)
Raw Basmati or any long grain rice- 1 cup
Tomato- 3 medium or 1 cup, roughly chopped
Onion- 1/3 cup, roughly chopped
Peas- 1/3 cup (here you can add paneer or capsicum or any other veggies of your choice)
Ginger-garlic- - 1 tsp, coarse paste
Green chili- 1, chopped
Coriander leaves- 2-3 tbsp
Tomato ketchup- 5 tbsp
Pav bhaji masala- 1 tbsp(here you can you any spice masala, only the taste will be different)
Turmeric- ¼ ts
Red chili- ½ tsp (adjust the quantity as per your taste)
Salt- as per taste
Oil- 2-3 tbsp
Ghee/clarified butter - 1 tbsp
How to make:
Clean and wash basmati rice. Then Soak it in water for 15-30 minutes.
Cook it and keep it aside to cool down. Make sure not to overcook the rice or pulao will be mushy.
Heat a kadhai/pan, add oil.
When it’s hot then onion. Sauté it for few minutes.
Then add ginger-garlic paste and fry it until raw smell gone.
Then add tomato, green chili with salt and cook it until tomatoes get soften.
Add green peas, turmeric, pav bhaji masala, pepper, tomato ketchup and chili powder.
Fry it until oil starts separating from the spices.
Here I have used frozen peas. It takes less time to cook. If you are using fresh green peas, add it with tomatoes, so that it can cook properly.
Now add boiled and cool down rice (if your rice is hot then it will be mushy while mixing up with spices) and mix everything gently.
Cook it for 2 minutes on medium-low flame, then add ghee/clarified butter and coriander.
Again mix it and serve hot with raita.
