Are Crazy Parts Tremolo Springs Vintage Correct?
In this video, I test the tension of the three Crazy Parts springs I just received to see if they have vintage correct tensions. I compare the Crazy Parts springs to vintage 1964 springs as well as Fender American Vintage, Callaham, Gotoh, Raw Vintage and three 1962 springs I have in my CAR Strat. So, if you are running all five springs and you are having trouble doing a complete dive bomb without worrying about breaking your whammy bar, you need vintage tension springs like the Raw Vintage or Crazy Parts springs. I prefer that all the spring tensions match but you can always experiment and mix and match to see if the overall guitar tone changes but keep the tensions low. I think duplicating the vintage springs is not as easy as one might think thus the reason the Crazy Parts springs are not consistent as far as their tension goes.
Crazy Parts 1 = 10.9#
2= 11.2#
3= 11.2#
Callaham = 16# (lbs)
Gotoh = 15#
1964 Vintage = 11.6#
Raw Vintage = 10.4#
C.A.R. Strat-1966 = 13.5# - vintage (not sure which year)
16.0# (1/2 step higher pitch)
13.7# - vintage (not sure which year)
16.0# (1/2 step higher pitch)
14.2# - vintage (not sure which year)
Fender American Vintage = 14.2 # (added 7/11/2020)
