Ultra High Frequency ~ We're On The Right Track 1973 Disco Purrfection Version
Another sparkling gem from the Philly Soul music book. MFSB were the guys responsible for the success of Philadelphia International and the Salsoul Orchestra and were already in place and ready to jam in 1973!
You can tell the signature vibraphones, percussion, strings and drums belong to the one and only MFSB. This is my favorite version of this song that has been covered by South Shore Commission and Blue Magic. The vocals are just as smooth as the music, and that makes it Philly magic! I can't say enough good things about this one. Sophisticated and classy disco from 1973, this song missed the Disco Action and pop charts, but is still a highlight in the disco realm. The upbeat vocals sound hopeful, the strings evoke a picture of a sunny day with me and a pitcher of margaritas bbq-ing something with friends/family.
Norman Harris, Bobby Eli and the rest were guns for hire and played on many hit singles in the 70's under numerous band names, but their sound is unmistakable and evokes the early fascination with disco. Hope you like this one! UHF never lived up to the promise of this one and after a few non charting singles, evaporated only to return on a 1975 album called "Disco Gold".
Compiled by Scepter Records, the album presented the underground disco music that was filling the disco club floors and not really heard on the radio. Vince Aletti, disco historian supreme noted that the album contained a wide selection of club favorites, remixed and extended revitalizing these disco chestnuts for the emerging disco crowd in 1975. On the back cover was a listing of 200 disco DJ's and a note from Scepter thanking them for their support stating "Thanks, for without your help this album would not be possible."
Don't confuse this disco group with the Ultra High Frequency of 2001 which is a rock band, there is no relation at all. Aside from the four singles they released, I cannot find more information about who they were and what happened. Just one glorious song that helped to define the sound of disco.
