Fernando Alonso’s “Different Opinion” On Abu Dhabi Controversy
Alpine’s Fernando Alonso was one of the five drivers who was allowed to unlap himself as the safety car was coming to an end in Abu Dhabi last year. Alonso has now given his honest views on the changes instituted by the FIA in the wake of the controversy that followed

Fernando Alonso’s Surprising Views On Abu Dhabi Controversy
Alonso began by assessing the new FIA president after Alpine’s car launch
“The new president obviously wanted to make sure everything was in the right place, as I’ve said a few times, I like Mohammed, I like his approach”
He gave his thoughts on the changes instituted by the FIA
“If he thinks we need some new ideas there that are good for everyone, I’m happy with that”
Alonso then revealed if what happened in Abu Dhabi was wrong
“As far as Abu Dhabi is concerned, I may have a different opinion, but I don’t think anything went wrong there”
He signed off by hoping that the rules weren’t changed because of that
“I don’t think they changed it because of Abu Dhabi, I hope [not]”

Mercedes driver George Russell suggested that teammate “Lewis [Hamilton] is a fighter and a racer. His main priority is to be the best version of himself when he hits the track in Bahrain” [Press conference]
“He is far more experienced than I am, he knows what preparation he needs over the course of pre-season to prepare himself best for the first race”

“I think hopefully everyone will get to see it, and to have perhaps a better understanding of everything”
“I think ultimately, like everything, it’s down to understanding where we’ve been, so we can move forwards in a positive light”
McLaren’s Lando Norris has detailed that “on the simulator [he’s] been spending a lot of time”
“Not just driving the car but being prepared to drive it in different ways and being ready to drive in different driving styles”
Williams driver Nicholas Latifi stated that “[abuse on social media] is a very serious topic, especially now more than ever” [The Independent]
“Maybe in previous years it was a topic people didn't want to speak about”
“But it is one of the most important things in modern times so I think it is important to be open to talking about certain things”
Williams CEO Jost Capito thinks that “Alex [Albon] hasn’t reached his peak yet, he can show a lot more” [Press Conference]
“When I see how he works in the simulator and with the engineers, he makes a happy impression on me”
“I also have a good connection built up to him. We speak very openly with each other and he feels at home here”
