Message in a bottle found more than 20 years later

WHEELWRIGHT, Ky. -- A Kentucky woman got a blast from the past this week, after a letter she put in a bottle more than 20 years ago resurfaced.
"It's been 21 years," said Amy Tackett, who wrote the letter, along with her sister and friend. "It was dated for April the 10th of 1996."

Tackett said they used to play around a creek in Wheelwright, Kentucky, which is where they put the bottle with the letter inside.

She never thought she would see it again but recently, a man found the bottle and letter roughly 15 miles away in McDowell, Kentucky.

"I'm shocked that he didn't throw it away or kick it to the side," said Tackett. "He actually went through the trouble to find me, so that was nice."

Tackett said they wrote the letter and hoped it would reach someone far away. They included their contact info, so whoever found it could write back. While it didn't make it too far, she said it's still exciting.

"You don't ever expect anyone to find that," said Tackett. "Especially 21 years later. It's in really good shape so I could read it. It was pretty cool."

Tackett said they just used a pencil to write on the paper and put it inside of a plastic bottle, so she is surprised it is still readable after all these years.
