Anderson Twp. teenager making, delivering gift bags for homeless

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH -A Cincinnati area teenager is heading up her own charity program for the homeless.

Carly Richardson is working to provide them with gift bags for the holidays.

"I'm just so proud that she has come up with this on her own," Laurie Richardson, Carly's mother, said.

The Anderson Township middle-schooler said she was a few years old when her parents encouraged her to give her blanket to a homeless man. She was too young at the time to understand the situation, so she didn't do it.

It's been on Carly's mind ever since.

"There's hundreds of people like that, more than hundreds out there, who want that blanket, so I was thinking well maybe I could start something to help them all," Carly said.

The 14-year-old is rounding up donations to give to men who are struggling and staying at the St. Francis - St. Joseph Catholic Worker House. She is collecting items like toiletries, shirts, underwear and socks.

"We get stuff every year. We get presents. Realizing that some people don't get anything ever, I wanted to help them because no one deserves to live with nothing," Carly said.

She and her family will hand deliver the gift bags on Christmas Day.

"Life-changing to actually see and talk and be with them. I just think it's going to be an amazing experience honestly," Carly said.

Carly and her family will also have breakfast with the men on Christmas Day.

They are still accepting donations to put inside the gift bags. If you would like to donate, you can drop off your items at Cleaner Concepts which is located at 7857 Beechmont Avenue in Anderson Township.

The Richardsons ask that you place donations in a plastic grocery bag that is tied up. There are baskets located inside the business for donations.

Much needed items, per Carly, are men's boxer briefs, men's white t-shirts and socks. Personal care items are also appreciated.
