Oklahoma woman kidnapped, robbed after man enters home through pet door

DEL CITY, Okla. - They are meant for pets, but police said they can be easy access for thieves.

A pet door is how Del City police said a man got into a woman’s home while she was sleeping.

It happened around 3’o clock Wednesday morning at a home on Vicki Drive not too far from Janice Maxwell’s home.

“I immediately locked my door, because I thought it had just happened,” Maxwell said.

Police said, after climbing through the pet door, the male suspect went into the victim’s bedroom and woke her at gunpoint.

“At one point, he took her hostage, basically kidnapped her. He forced her to drive in her car to a Midwest City bank, where he attempted to get funds out of her ATM,” said Major Jody Suit, Del City police.

But, police said the crook couldn’t get cash from the ATM.

But, he managed to steal some money and jewelry from the victim’s home.

After leaving the ATM, the two went back to the woman’s neighborhood, where the suspect forced her out of her car.

He drove off in the victims silver PT Cruiser.

“He was wearing a mask. He is believed to be a white male in his 30’s with a tattoo on his right hand that starts at the front of the arm and goes to the back,” Suit said.

Police said it does not appear the man knew the victim and, despite being shaken up, she is expected to be okay.

Maxwell is shocked something so scary happened so close.

“So far, this neighborhood has been very quiet. We have a lot of elderly and retired people on this block. We lock our vehicles. We lock our doors. We lock our glass doors when we are home even,” she said.
