The Dnipro Rapids, which flow around the island of Khortytsia, became famous as a shipwreck hotspot: many vessels did not pass. Since the end of the 20th century, underwater archaeologists from the Khortytsia Reserve have been recovering historic sunken boats and ships from the riverbed, restoring them, and exhibiting them in the island’s maritime museum. Alongside the ships is a collection of anchors, the oldest dating from the 10th century.
