The Vernadsky National Library — also known as ‘Vernadka’ — is Ukraine’s foremost book collection and one of the largest national libraries in the world. Its history began in 1918 on Volodymyrska Street (the original building now contains only rare editions). In 1989, the main building was relocated to a three-hectare site on Holosiivskyi Prospekt.
