Duga is a radar station built in the 1970s in Polissia. It is one of the most massive objects of anti-aircraft defense of the Cold War times. The secret object cost the USSR almost twice as much as the Chornobyl NPP. It was not put into a regular operational service because of constant improvements. Consequently cost cutting and drawbacks in construction are named as the cause of the catastrophe in the NPP reactor. After the Chornobyl disaster, “Duga” was removed from combat duty and turned into a tourist destination.
