Mortician charged after violent struggle leaves multiple police officers injured in Arouca patrol encounter

A Petit Valley man employed as a mortician has been arrested and is expected to face charges following a violent confrontation with police during a roving operation in Arouca on Friday night, which left several officers injured, including fractures and bite injuries.

According to police information, the incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. on April 10, 2026, during a mobile patrol in the Arouca district along the eastern main road in the vicinity of the Ministry of Finance building.

Officers observed a man behaving in a disorderly manner while verbally abusing members of the public. The man was reportedly clad in black pants and wearing a single black sock on his right foot at the time

A party of officers, including a female corporal and three constables, exited their marked vehicle and approached the individual of upper mon coco road, Petit Valley, an employee of Precious Memories Funeral Home in Arouca.

Police said he was warned about his behaviour; however, he allegedly continued using obscene language, repeatedly shouting, “I don’t f***ing care.”

As officers attempted to arrest him, the situation escalated. It is alleged that he resisted arrest and began pulling away, resulting in a struggle between him and the officers.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly assaulted multiple officers, striking a woman corporal on her right hand, a constable on his head and left hand, and biting him on the left ankle. Two other officers were also reportedly struck to the head and body during the melee.

Backup officers assisted in restraining the man, who was eventually subdued and taken into custody at the Arouca police station.

All injured officers sought medical attention at the St. Joseph enhanced health centre. Medical reports indicate that the woman corporal sustained a fractured right hand, requiring a cast and 10 days’ sick leave, while another constable suffered a fractured left arm and was also placed on 10 days’ sick leave.

The remaining officers were treated for soft tissue injuries, including chest and upper arm trauma. One officer was referred for further imaging at the Mt. Hope Hospital.
