San Fernando police gun theft fallout: 10 in custody, 43 firearms recovered in major Claxton Bay overnight intercept— arms haul deepens investigation

Authorities have significantly escalated their investigation into the audacious theft of firearms and ammunition from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, with a total of ten suspects now detained and a substantial cache of weapons recovered.

In a press statement on Tuesday, April 21st, the TTPS confirmed that 43 firearms and more than 900 rounds of assorted ammunition have been seized so far as intelligence-led operations continue to dismantle what investigators believe is a wider criminal network linked to the incident on Sunday 19th April 2026.

A key development unfolded during a coordinated overnight operation in the Claxton Bay district between 6:00 p.m. on Sunday and 7:00 a.m. on Monday. Officers attached to the Highway Patrol South Operations Team intercepted a white Kia K2700 van carrying three male occupants.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 13 firearms, 12 magazines, 288 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and ten 12-gauge cartridges. All three men were immediately arrested in connection with the findings.

This latest seizure adds to an earlier breakthrough made just hours before, when joint units including the Southern Division, Special Branch, and the Home Invasion Team recovered 30 firearms and 612 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the same general Claxton Bay area, resulting in the detention of seven additional suspects.

In total, the coordinated operations have yielded 43 firearms and over 900 rounds of ammunition, marking one of the most significant recoveries linked to a single police station theft in recent times.

The operation was directed by Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro alongside senior police leadership, including Deputy Commissioners Suzette Martin and Natasha George, Assistant Commissioner Richard Smith, and Senior Superintendent Garvin Simon.

The field operation was supervised by Inspector (Ag.) Jitmansingh with assistance from Corporal Davis.
Investigations remain active as police continue efforts to identify all individuals involved and determine the full extent of the network behind the breach.
