➤ Bakso Campur - Mixed Meatballs Soup $? (FREE)
First time having the bakso campur and it was a delicious one. It came with mixed noodles – rice noodles and egg noodles. The rice noodles were thin like vermicelli and the egg noodles were average thick size. Noodles were great but I am a fan of the egg version. The broth was so light but flavorful at the same time. It was nice and warm – really comforting. It had a clean, clear taste to it if that makes any sense... but with a meat flavor there. Kind of reminded me of beef stock but lighter. The veggies in there were bean sprouts and some other greens. I think the whole dish is very light and it was a pleasant meal overall. It would definitely make for a delicious dish any time of the day, especially if it’s raining outside! Definitely get it if you’re a soup/noodle fan! Don’t forget to add a dab of sambal in each bite too!

➤ Gulai Kambing - Goat Curry $? (FREE)
Goat is one of those meats that I always have to try at a restaurant if it’s on the menu. It’s just not as common as beef and I love the flavors – it has that “extra” taste to it. The dish came with pieces of goat with some still stuck to the bone. I love when meat is stuck to the bones. Not only are there tons of flavors near the bone where it meets the meat, but it also makes for a fun gnawing experience. The curry was intense with flavors with a slight spiciness to it and of course the curry flavors. I’m not sure what the ingredients were but I believe there were chilies, coconut milk, and turmeric as the base. This one was also very delicious – it’s like a long-simmered stew in many ways… you know the ones that stick to your ribs after drinking some on a cold day? It has a very soul-food vibe going on here. With rice – game over! Definitely recommend this!

➤ Es Cendol - Pandan & Coconut Milk Dessert $? (FREE)
This is the second time I had this dessert – seems to be really popular at restaurants. I’m not complaining though. I actually like to review the same dishes more than once, especially at different restaurants. That way I can see how they are different. I like to analyze my foods (lol) and compare and contrast – makes it more fun, don’t you think? This one was special because of the amount of jackfruit that was provided – there were literally a few spoonfuls that I had to munch on to finish the drink. I think the flavors were balanced, nothing stood out too much except the jackfruit. It’s always fun to slurp the pandan “noodles” as I like to call it. It’s not really noodles but they kind of look like them. As I’m writing this I’m starting to realize I’m getting good at identifying the differences in the es cendols. I’m sure there will be other restaurants that have this so I can’t wait to try theirs and taste the difference. Get this if you’ve never tried it – it’s a delicious Indonesian dessert!

Seulanga Cafe is such a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant in South Philly. It is totally unassuming especially considering that there are no signs on the outside. If you go there, just look for the open door at the corner where there are people walking in and out and you’ll know it’s the right spot. Mutia is a great person, such a positive and hard-working chef/owner. You can taste the love in her food. She serves the immediate area but I see so many walks of life coming in - not just Indonesian Muslims (even though the food is Halal). Check her and her food out when you are in the area – tell her I sent you!
