Six Days of FENYA's journey at HERD☀️
Our carers have named the new calf in our care! And we are sharing a super lengthy update about her progress over the past six days!
The strong young elephant has come a long way in a short time. Every day has been a journey of love, patience and challenges. She is eating vegetation well, drinking water well, and now she is officially drinking milk from a bottle too!!
We decided to create this long video (yes it is an hour, so pour yourself a cup of tea!!) filled with the highlights of the past six days with our followers who have been dying to get as much info as possible. This way you can feel part of our journey so far, as we have been immersed in caring for her every move.
You will see how she allows Adine and the carers to eventually start touching her and Adine can now (slowly) hug her and how she even allows her to tend to her wounds, first while laying down, and shortly after while standing up.
We have a long journey to go with the wounds, but they are looking clean. Wildlife vet, Dr. Rogers will be returning very soon to hopefully stitch them up if he is satisfied they are clean enough, to not risk infection.
Many people have asked when she will meet the herd. That will only happen when she is fully healed. Her wounds are still very deep and serious. And for that reason, we are keeping her in her nurseries too. As well as gaining her trust, as she is a very large elephant and could accidentally injure someone due to her size.
You will see through her journey that she is nothing short of an incredibly strong SURVIVOR, and that is what our carers chose to call her, in a local South African language of Sotho. 💚They named her FENYA💚.
Soon we will share more about some of her special moments with Khanyisa! 🥰
Thank you again for the amazing support and love and messages!
