Did the herd reject this baby elephant?

Generally elephants take care of their own... what happened here with this baby elephant at Hwange National Park? Excuse the noisy water pump. the wind, and the chatter and laughter of the students who entered the hide with their ranger. They were so excited. Probably their first time experiencing something as amazing as this.
But, on to the mum and tiny one. They came in with this large herd as you'll see. However, the tiny one is treated rather roughly by several herd members. Was rather odd to us. Also, when the tiny one falls into the waterhole.... where did everyone go?
Mum does return and seems to enjoy helping her tiny one navigate the water. She sure gets protective when the hippos venture too close!
The most strange is at the end... the herd leaves without mum and the tiny one! Did they reject this baby elephant?
