SMT. KISHORI AMONKAR ~ RAGA SHUDDH KALYAN

The legendary Kishori Amonkar (1932 ~ 2017) passed away last April just a week short of 85 years. Kishoriji was one of the foremost vocalists in the Hindustani Khayal Music Tradition and an innovator of the Jaipur Gharana (Tradition). Her voice had an ethereal quality that enraptured her audiences with its mystical magic which evoked serenity and spiritulity in the minds and hearts of her listeners! Here we present a Dhrut Bandish (Composition) in Teentaal (16-beat cycle) in the early evening melody, Raga Shuddh Kalyan. This is taken from her concert presented for Navras Records by Sama Arts Network at London's Kufa Gallery in Nov 1998. The full concert is published on a CD by Navras on NRCD 0111, comprising of Ragas Shuddh Kalyan and Suha.
