A Hariharan ~ Visaal Launch Mumbai ~ Apne Aaine Mein Utaar Mujhe

In 1996 Navras Records released an album of the renowned ghazal singer A. Hariharan under the title "Visaal" - Ghazals for Connoisseurs (Catalogue Ref. NRCD 0068). Hariharan was keen to record a ghazal album with a classical music underpinning and said he would do that with Navras given its commitment to promotion of classical music.

Hariharan trained in Carnatic Classical Music under his mother Alamelu Mani and subsequently Hindustani Classical Music under the doyen of Sahaswan Rampur Gharana, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Saheb.

This album "Visaal" (meaning "meeting' or "union") comprised of five ghazals, a mixture of contemporary and classical (Ghalib and Momin). The launch of the album by Navras Records in India took place circa 1997 at the Holiday Inn Juhu at Mumbai. The album was launched by the famous Music Composer and Director Naushad Ali, in the presence of Hariharan's Guru, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan and other musical luminaries.

The launch was preceded by presenting of three items from the album by Hariharan. Here we share with you "Apne Aaine Mein Uttar Mujhe" by Mumtaz Rashid performed by Hariharan.
