Welcome to 'Live from the Swans', a bird cam streamed directly from a mute swan nest in Yorkshire, England.

The female laid her first egg on April 2, 2024. Swans lay every two days and normally have a clutch of between 9-12 eggs. They won't begin brooding until the clutch is complete. In the meantime they 'bury' the eggs under reeds in their nest to keep them warm and safe from predators.

The male swan is slightly larger than the female and his bill is slightly 'redder' in tone than the female's. He is ringed - look out for an ID tag on his left leg.

Mute swans are the most common of swan species here on mainland Britain and are easy to recognise by their orange bills which have a large black 'knob' at the base. Males are known as 'cobs' and females are 'pens'.
