Applying Body Filler for the First Time Ever - How to Paint Car at Home Step #5
Spending a few nights already block sanding the car has honestly been the most fun i have had restoring the honda's body. The body filler and Bondo applications have so far been effortless to use and shape. The car sat for about two days before i went ahead and started working on the fiberglass application, so i had to sand or scuff down the body panels to ensure the filler could adhere properly, basically creating a mechanical bond compared to a chemical bond, which i could have done if i had applied the filler within the 48 hours, but honestly its fine, not to much work. Being a rookie honestly with bodywork the most important thing i have learned so far about repairing and prepping the body of a car for paint is taking my time and applying thin coats to minimize on sanding and adding air behind the filler. After a while, i kinda grasped the technique and think that i am ready to finish up the quarter panels as they still remain but did receive 3 coats of the fiber glass filler. Should be plenty strong enough for the next application of bondo. The small dents, dings and imperfections have been filled but still require some additional block sanding. The overall goal is to get this done, Thursday, this post being Wednesday evening, so lots to do over the next two nights but its something i think i can achieve for sure. Ill also include a little more step by step application as i feel i might have whipped through some things people would like to see. I did however update you guys who were asking about the air compressor i have been using. Its a dewalt 15 gallon model 51688 compressor. 5 cfm at 90psi , keeps up to my spray gun no problem and honestly more then enough power with air output to paint something as small as a honda. So basically dont go out there thinking you need a 30 plus gallon air compressor to paint a car, you dont
