Humza Yousaf savaged for failing to sack Michael Matheson over iPad bill scandal

At a noisy FMQs yesterday Douglas Ross and Humza Yousaf traded blows over Michael Matheson's iPad bill scandal.

Mr Ross constanly asked Humza Yousaf: 'The First Minister said that it was a “legitimate” expense. Does he still believe that?'

The First Minister didn't answer, instead, he backed his Health Secretary.

Things got firey as various MSPs shouted across the chamber leading the Deputy Presiding Officer to have to intervene.

Mr Ross continued: 'We have a health secretary who claimed £11,000 from the taxpayer and a First Minister who will not simply answer whether that was a legitimate claim to make or not. Michael Matheson is taking the public for fools'

Michael Matheson previously admitted in an emotional statement to MSPs his teenage sons had used his parliamentary iPad as a hotspot to watch football during a holiday in January, incurring costs of more than £7,000 in one day as a result of an out of date sim card.

Following a failed challenge over the bill to provider EE, Mr Matheson initially agreed to pay £3,000 from his own expenses and the remaining balance was paid by his office – all of which is funded by taxpayers.

But following press reports about the bill, he said he would cover the full cost personally.
