Jeff Lynne was on a quest to find the elusive “Sweet Talkin’ Woman,” with all her alluring beauty and charm…but when he found her…his life turned upside down As the old saying from Aeosop’s Fables goes….be careful what you wish for. Beneath an appealing exterior, there may lurk hidden dangers that, once uncovered, compel an immediate instinct to flee. What looks good on the surface may have something dangerous lurking on the inside, and when you find it… all you want to do is RUN. RUN!!

Today we are covering their A-side Sweet Talking Woman and its strange B-side Fire on High. "Sweet Talkin' Woman" by Electric Light Orchestra, is a song written by Jeff Lynne. It was released in ’78 as the 4th single from the ELO album "Out of the Blue." The lyrics of "Sweet Talkin' Woman" tell the story of a man addressing a woman who is charming, but…. manipulative. The man is cautious and aware that her “sweet talkin’ ways” might not be genuine, but he is still drawn to her. The song showcases ELO’s distinctive blend of rock, pop, and classical elements, with ELO's signature, pulsating, orchestral sound:

The single became the third top hit from Out of the Blue- shooting to #6 in the UK, and #17 on the Hot 100. The b-side for the UK single was the ballad “Bluebird is Dead,” featuring an eerie guitar solo entirely engineered as a backward recording. Jeff Lynne established a reputation for backward masking very early in his career.

Because of his deep admiration of the Beatles, and his sly, humorous nature, Jeff Lynne loved to incorporate backward masking with secret messages in the ELO recordings. He started embedding cryptic messages in his music as far back as 1968 with the debut album Idle Race. Almost every album he’s produced since then features a track with concealed, and somewhat enigmatic meanings. As with many other innovations, the Fab Four popularized backward masking and dazzled listeners with hidden stuff
