Leaking Expansion Valves - Rheem Stellar Gas Storage Hot Water System - Plumbdog Plumbing Perth

Superstar Darius on the job again! Our client noticed that the hot and cold expansion valves were starting to leak so they gave us a whistle. Not only is Darius already familiar with these hot water systems, but he also installed it with his own paws a few years ago.

Leaking expansion or relief valves are a sign that the hot water system needs a major service but it’s always important to check properly and not make assumptions.

In The Video:

[0:03] RHEEM STELLAR – Darius is having a look at the Rheem Stellar installed only 3 years ago. It seems a bit premature for a major service but the expansion control valve and the pressure temperature relief started leaking so it’s time to sniff out the problem.

[0:35] REMOVING ANODES – Time to inspect the anodes to see whether we have an issue here. Check out how clean the system is on top, as good as new.

[1:16] THE SACRIFICIAL ANODES –They don’t usually corrode this quickly but check out the reveal. There’s not much of the anodes left and sand peeling off what’s left.

[1:47] RECOMMENDATIONS – The anodes are completely depleted which means they need replacement. Rather than simply replacing, it’s recommended to have a major service completed at the same time.

This video provides a great example where even though the hot water system is quite new and looked after, there are situations which occur where a major service may need to be brought forward with factors like the quality of the water in the local area causing these anodes to deteriorate at more rapid rate so it’s important to keep up with your maintenance to avoid any unforeseen hot water issues at your home.
