Anode Replacement & Tank Flush (Major Service) Rheem Stellar Gas HWS - Plumbdog Plumbing Perth

In this video, we were given a whistle to look at a hot water system with intermittent hot water issues. Superstar Darius is all too familiar with these types of issues as you would be too now watching our videos when it comes to servicing hot water systems but check out how much build up there is at the bottom of the tank.

Todays hot water system is a popular Rheem Stellar 330 and they are made tough but they do still need maintenance and attention. Due to the sand and sediment build up, the tempering valve gauzes have also blocked up which resulted in low hot water pressure.

There are many other steps involved when carrying out a service on hot water systems but in this video we wanted to show just how much build up there is at the bottom of the hot water tank which in turn has an effect other plumbing accessories attached to the hot water line.

[0:03] THAT IS JUST OUT OF CONTROL – If you have a storage hot water system, this is what builds up in the tank over time.

[0:24] POPPING/KETTLING SOUNDS – Our videos where storage Hot Water Systems make popping or kettling sounds have been really popular and have raised a lot of awareness to customers that their hot water systems need maintenance and why. Darius gives us a good run through what it’s all about.

[1:03] OLD ANODES – Have a look at the anodes at the 5 year mark. There’s not much of it left.

[1:33] REMOVING AN ANODE – Darius pulls out one of the anodes from the hot water system and you can see that the anode needs replacing.
[2:20] SAND AND SEDIMENT BUILDUP – Darius talks us through the second part of why and how we need to service the tank.

[3:11] TEMPERING VALVE – With the sand and sediment buildup, the tempering valve has also been affected so it was time to change this one too.

[3:38] HIGH PRESSURE WATER JETTERS – We love to talk about our custom made jetters but it never gets old firing one up!

[4:10] FLUSHING OUT THE TANK – You can see instantly that the water isn’t clean coming out of the tank when using the high pressure water to push it out.

[5:30] INSTALLING NEW ANODES – This is what new anodes look like when they are installed.

Important Note: Just because we make it look easy, don’t forget we are professional licensed plumbers. You may remember in a previous video that we shared that a customer had tried to purchase anodes themselves to install only to find that they had wasted their time and money needing us to come out and fix the problem shortly after.
