✍️ Summary:
First up, skin signs of Diabetic Dermopathy (DD).
This common skin condition is also known as diabetic shin spots. These spots look like small, dull red or brown scaly patches on the skin, typically on the legs, and can occur in up to half of those with diabetes.
Next is Bullosis Diabeticorum (BD).
This rare condition affects around 1% of the US population. It causes sudden, firm, and painless blisters on the skin, typically on the hands and feet. These blisters can range in size and appear simultaneously on the right and left sides of the body.
Have you ever heard of Acanthosis Nigricans?
Unlike other skin conditions, this condition is quite common. You will see dark, thickened patches on the skin that have a velvety or warty texture.
Moving on, let’s talk about Eruptive Xanthomas.
This condition is associated with high levels of triglycerides in the blood, particularly in those with diabetes. You can identify its development by clusters of tiny, pink, or yellow pimples suddenly appearing on the skin.
Next up is Diabetic Foot Syndrome
This condition affects the feet due to various factors, including nerve damage, poor blood flow, and impaired wound healing.
The following condition is Generalized Granuloma Annulare (GGA).
This rash affects 10-15% of those with diabetes. It starts with small, skin-colored or reddish bumps on your skin, and over time, these bumps form a ring-shaped pattern that can be either lighter or darker in color.
Have you ever heard of skin tags?
These little skin flaps can pop up on your neck, underarms, or even around your eyes and are small, benign growths of skin.
Lastly, diabetes can also cause Scleroderma-like skin changes.
Studies have estimated that 10-50% of patients with diabetes have this condition. Scleroderma-like skin changes are more common in those with type 1 diabetes and those with longstanding diseases.
