Kilauea Skylight and Lava Breakout May 11 & 13, 2010

The tube system delivering lava from Kilauea's East Rift Zone is still developing from the top of Pulama Pali to the Pacific Ocean. There are at least two shallow tubes on the slopes of the pali and coastal plain as well as numerous sub-surface and surface flows. The first clip in this video shows a skylight on one of the shallow tubes. The rest of the video shows a surge of lava which broke out from under thick slabs of crust after having pushed them aside.
