Ovi Completes Hat Trick With Fastest OT Goal Ever (12/15/2006)

December 15, 2006 - Ovechkin has achieved many goal-scoring records over his time in the NHL, however, most of them are single-season or career records. One single-game record the Great 8 does share though is the fastest overtime goal in NHL history. Ovechkin would open the scoring for the Capitals on a power play tally in the first period, but the Capitals would find themselves trailing 2-1 as the game winded down. Ovechkin would score again with just over half a minute left to send the game to overtime, and it wouldn't take long for the Great 8 to finish the job. He picked up the puck off the faceoff and scored just 6 seconds into the extra session to give the Capitals the win and himself his second career hat trick. The 6-second goal tied him with Mats Sundin and David Legwand for the fastest in NHL history (a feat since matched by Andrea Athanasiou and William Nylander).
