Guadalcanal Diary - "Minnie the Moocher" - 930 Club, Wash. DC - 06/29/85

Not London Calling. Cab. Jammed in that small club, on an abnormally shaped raised stage with a support pole positioned front and center was electric. It was sort of a miniature Peppermint Lounge. Guadalcanal did well in D.C. and always enjoyed the venues and crowds, especially the 930 Club (on F Street). Always thinking of Jeff, here with his Gretsch, a mix of Chet Atkins and Glen Buxton; Rhett Crowe soaked in sweat, ever the southern lady with her single strand of pearls; John Poe pounding the drums with marching drum sticks; Murray Attaway paying tribute to Cab Callaway in this stripped down, bludgeoning version of Minnie the Moocher.
