Guadalcanal Diary - "Dead Eyes" - Jockey Club, Newport, Ky 09/28/84

This video captures a powerful performance by Guadalcanal Diary, so I'm sharing it on this 30th anniversary. John powers a blistering version of "Dead Eyes" preceded by the end of "John Wayne" (to show more John). The Jockey Club has a storied history and is a large hall situated across the Ohio River from Cincinnati in Newport, Ky. The historical relationship was Newport wet, Cincy dry (also chalk up gambling & women for Newport) which accounts for the contrast between the two. The show was on a week night (probably Thursday) and attendance was meager but the audience was overly enthusiastic. The band went with it, playing wildly and well.
