AID TO #UKRAINE - Heading to YUNAKIVKA - 7.12.2022 🇺🇦 🇬🇧 🇷🇴

In this video, three of us head from #Sumy to Yunakivka which is only 6 kilometres from the Russian border and an area that still has a Russian presence over the border. After the Russians were pushed out of Kharkiv and the Sumy regions back over the border, they still conduct reconnaissance and the Sumy region is still regularly shelled with artillery.

This video is not about handing over aid to people and grabbing selfies to feel good, it was capturing the aid run and showing the impact of the war. The guys we delivered to are over the moon and so thankful for the gear, and we know what we did, so better their identities are protected and their location. We will continue to deliver aid as needed with the next run in mid January.

Like a lot of areas that fighting has occurred in and areas occupied by the Russians, there are many villages just destroyed and looted. Evidence is everywhere. What I will say though is Ukraine is watching and if Russia thinks it will have a second go with the same tactics, it is going to be taught another lesson. The area is prepared, checkposts everywhere fully manned, barricades and tank traps still in place and more ready to close the roads again, mines down the sides of roads etc.

Yunakivka was on a key axis of advance as Russia first pushed into Ukraine from the North, East and South. Its fairly empty and eventually you cant go any further as Ukraine has blocked the road that led to the border crossing point about 7 kilometres further up the road. The Russian border starts before that at about 6 kilometres away and you can see the Russian treeline. So its quiet and still there and not a good place to sit for too long in the open, as a drone might pick you up and artillery might launch a few shells. So we had a quick look and turned around for the trek further South and then back to Kyiv.
