We came from India - Boyash Collection - VLACH
VLACH ID-number: baya1254HUV0001a
Description:
Gyöngyj Kalányos explains in this clip what she knows about the migration history of the Boyash people. After migrating from India, they were enslaved in what is today’s Romania, where they worked in mines. As they were forced to abandon the Romani language on Romania’s territory, and were later pressured to shift towards Hungarian in Hungary, their migration history and story has not been handed down to succeeding generations. Today, their culture and language has evolved differently from that of their neighbours, the Romani speaking Roma.
