Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look and installing the CURT four-pole trailer wiring harness on a 2022 Toyota Highlander. This uses OEM-style plugs, so it truly is plug-and-play, and it's gonna be fuse-protected as well as module-protected, so there's really no risk of this causing any issue to your factory wiring, and once installed, you'll be able to have your running lights, your turn signals, as well as your brake lights on your trailer. As far as that installation, super easy. Follow along, and we'll make sure you get it installed. Now, when it comes to wiring on the Highlander, you do wanna be making sure that you are getting the two-piece kit. Now, they will sell just the adapter.
This will plug into the tow package plug, but it's not gonna give the light signals to the four-pole without the module as well as our fuse and tying into the main harness, so this is a two-piece wiring, but it's overall pretty easy to get installed, so here off our module, this is kind of the brains of the operation. We have a ground wire that we're gonna be attaching to a chassis ground, as well as all of our wires that go into a large factory harness, which we'll plug in. It's gonna be located behind the plastics in our driver's side area in the rear compartment. We also have an inline fuse to help protect it. If there is any voltage drops or spikes, this will be another way to protect it.
It's also protected by the module, so there's really no risk of this ever damaging your factory wiring, and then with this small portion, this is gonna plug into the factory tow package plug. It's gonna be located right under, near where you're gonna have a hitch installed, and then you'll be able to have your four-pole ready to go. Now, we're gonna be using a bracket to get this mounted up a little bit later, but let's begin our installation by getting this installed. Plug's located in this plastic, as I mentioned before, and so you're gonna wanna take your second-row seat, scoot that forward, and underneath our couplers here, we're gonna wanna get this removed, and this is gonna get us close to our plug, so with a plastic trim tool, if you can, just kinda wedge that underneath, and we should be able to just pop this out. It's just gonna be some plastic clips, so as you can see, that just pops down in place.
Now, right where we removed our coupler, there's also gonna be a 10-mil that's located back there. We're gonna get that taken out. There's also gonna be this plastic plug, and this is gonna be covering up our 10-millimeter socket or bolt here that we need to remove, so with that plug removed, we'll go ahead and get this taken out. Now, we should have enough wiggle room here to be able to pop our plastics back, and so if you want, you can use that trim panel tool or just a flathead. Just peel back the weatherstripping by the door, and same thing.
It's just gonna be plastic clips kinda holding this in place, so as we pop this out, it'll start to work its way out a little bit, and as you unsnap the plastic, just pull by the glass, and you're gonna see the white plug. It's gonna be taped up. That's what we need to gain access to, so if you need to knock that loose from the tape, go ahead and do that, but we'll plug in our harness. Located right here is going to be our plug, so we'll take the dummy cap off, and that should match up with the harness on our wiring. Make this a little bit easier. I'm gonna just pop this plastic clip that's holding our plug in place. Give me a little bit more wiggle room here, and to get our cap off, there should be a locking tab that's located on the top of the plug. Just push that down, and then pull off the end, and now we'll take our harness and get that plugged in. With that snapped in, we're also gonna want to get our ground wire attached, and then we can put our fuse in place. So I do believe there's the factory ground. If you look by the door, there's a 10-millimeter bolt that's attached there with a ground. We're gonna use that, or there's even one that's right here by the window, so let's go ahead. We'll take that one. You can grab your ring terminal, slide the bolt through there, and then get that tightened back down. Grab your fuse. You ca
