On Sunday, 11 January 2026, a wildfire above Franschhoek burned through the mountains as firefighting teams worked to protect farms and structures.
In this video you’ll see repeated helicopter water drops and the scale of the smoke and fire line across the slopes.

According to official updates, the fire (reported earlier in the week) spread rapidly downhill, prompting ongoing operations and an aerial assessment flight.
