Haas driver Romain Grosjean seemingly ruffled a few feathers during the first race at Silverstone by making late moves when being overtaken by multiple drivers. However, he defended his moves by suggesting that Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had done the same previously and gotten away with it. Now, Daniel Ricciardo and former F1 driver Mark Webber have offered their scathing viewpoints.
I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World:
Grosjean Doesn’t Understand Racing: As Chairman of GPDA, He Should Know the Rules
Webber began by hitting out hard against Grosjean’s moves
“I don't think he understands the rules of wheel-to-wheel racing. He moves very late while defending, but says he leaves enough space on the track. He does, but when he's swinging back and forth at such a high speed. I think he doesn't understand at all what wheel-to-wheel racing is all about”
He then explained why Grosjean should not cite Verstappen and why he should be someone who knows the rules
“He's talking about Verstappen, but that's from the past and we're much further ahead. He is chairman of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association. He should know the rules”
He signed off by revealing why he finds Grosjean’s behavior frustrating
“He has had enough chances and continues to make mistakes like this. It's frustrating because there are plenty of drivers who can race well without getting a warning flag”
Fellow Aussie and current Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo added to that by saying
“It was very dangerous what Grosjean did. That's just not acceptable. We're going 300 kilometers per hour and then you have to have a little more respect for each other. Now we're almost crashing because he's changing direction so late. He’ll be sorry when he sees the footage, because this is dangerous and we can't accept it”

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has revealed that Esteban Gutierrez “would have been a great candidate for the seat” at Racing Point after Sergio Perez tested positive “but he didn't meet the requirements”
He further elaborated that “there is a new rule that after three years of not racing in an official event, a driver does not regain his license until he does a 300 kilometre test”
Former F1 driver turned commentator Martin Brundle thinks that “at Red Bull there will always be the feeling that they have missed the opportunity to hijack a victory at Mercedes”
Bridgestone’s former tyre expert Kees van de Grint thinks that the tyre blowouts at Silverstone had “mainly to do with the speed and downward pressure at Mercedes. They are one of the few teams that have made a lot of progress in that area”
He further added that “it is not a direct result of the DAS, as many people think”
He also does not criticize Red Bull’s decision to bring in Verstappen as “it's so easy to say something when you're sitting at home on your couch, but when you're there, it's really different”
Former F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve feels that championship leader Lewis Hamilton cannot rest “because if you miss races” like Sergio Perez “then it will be another story for the world title”
He also doesn’t understand “why Bottas goes off the gas in the first corner instead of continuing the attack. You have to make a fast choice, but at those moments you see the lack of aggressiveness”
Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas, meanwhile, feels that “it's a big loss of points. These kinds of things, you can't really afford, but obviously it happened”
He also stated that he will “keep pushing and keep believing. You just never know what will happen”
Ferrari have now also joined in the protest against Racing Point’s 2020 car
Allegedly, Formula 1 photographer Mark Sutton has revealed that he saw Sebastian Vettel getting into the car of Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer but has “no idea where they went”
McLaren’s Lando Norris said that “with the cars” they “drive nowadays, as soon as you get within three, four seconds, you can feel the lack of downforce, you feel like you’re destroying the tyres more than you want to”
Is Bottas still realistically in the title hunt?
