I transformed my 420 sq ft garage into a cozy Jadu studio. The design includes a small kitchen, a spacious walk-in closet, and a large bathroom. The studio features a vaulted ceiling with skylights incorporated into the closet and bathroom areas, allowing plenty of natural light. To meet the requirements for a Jadu, I added an exterior door on the side for easy access.
The main difference between an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) and a JADU (Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit) is their size and location within a property:

ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit): An ADU is a separate and complete living space, typically with its own kitchen, bathroom, and entrance. It can be a converted garage, a detached cottage, or a portion of the main house, and it can be rented out or used for family members.

JADU (Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit): A JADU is smaller and is located within the primary dwelling, such as a converted part of the house like a basement, attic, or a bedroom with its own kitchen and bathroom. JADUs are usually more compact and are designed to be an additional living space within the existing home.

In summary, the key difference is that ADUs are standalone living units, while JADUs are smaller living spaces located within the main house. Both can offer additional housing options or rental income opportunities, depending on your needs and local regulations.
