Grainger-Strauss Ramble of love duet from Rosenkavalier (Piano roll)
Percy Grainger's Duo-Art roll (#7300) of his "Ramble" on the love duets from Richard Strauss's Rosenkavalier.
This roll was issued on March 1929 and is very like Grainger's disc of that year, and the published music of a couple of years earlier.
The details such as the extended bass chords that are clearly demarked on the roll by having a different perforation pattern are in the music, where they are described to be held down silently for harmonic effect. Grainger was very interested in the player piano and used effects like this from his earliest arrangements for the Pianola in 1914. He was closely oinvolved in the editing of his Duo-Art rols.
Played on my Weber grand Duo-Art.
