Gershwin Preludes - piano roll transcription by Sid O'Connell

This performance was created from Gershwin's 3 preludes, created as a MIDI file, then aligned to Gershwin's own 78 rpm disc recording. Sid O'Connell developed this technique as a way of examining the structure of performances, and it made a natural fit with piano roll manufacture.

This was cut as a piano roll by Malcolm Robinson, Southport Roll Company. Beautifully produced, he marked this with the bar lines and added Theme accenting as well as accent marking.

Here, performed on a 1914 Steinway Pianola Grand, pianolist Julian Dyer - responsible for the dynamics of this performance.
