Enargite (Cu3AsS4) optical properties using a reflected-light polarizing microscope (adapted from Spry & Gedlinske, 1987):

System: Orthorhombic

Reflectance: Medium

Colour: Light pinkish brown or pinkish grey

VHN and polishing hardness: 285 - 327 / medium

Pleochroism: Weak, pinkish grey to greyish violet

Anisotropism: Strong with bluish, greenish, reddish, and orange tints

Internal reflections: Rare, deep red

Twinning: Rare, parallel (320)

Commonly associated minerals: Arsenopyrite, bornite, chalcocite, chalcopyrite, copper, covellite, digenite, famatinite, luzonite, mawsonite, molybdenite, pyrite, sphalerite, stannite, tennantite
