Aurora Borealis above Stokksnes peninsula on Iceland

Day 10 together with the following night of an already very sucessful photographic roadtrip along Iceland´s famouse ring road left me totally spechless. Mother nature is totally unpredicable, this time in a most welcoming way. The early evening already heralded a very special show on a special mountain. The Vestrahorn is part of the Klifatindur mountain range, which stretches out into the sea with black volcanic sand and offers a dramatic backdrop with its rugged peaks. The area surrounding the Vestrahorn is a real paradise for photographers and nature lovers. So this place was of particular photographic importance for me. After my initial excitement subsided and I tried out different photo locations, I was able to make the most of the sunset and the perfect light afterwards to put the mountain range into the spotlight. The weather couldn't have been better and my anticipation of the darkness increased immeasurably as my aurora forecast app informed me almost minute by minute of the expected increase in solar flare activity. And after dark it actually started. An absolutely indescribable play of colors in the sky. Northern Lights; first in the north, northern lights above us, then everywhere. No matter which direction we looked, we couldn't help but be amazed. An absolutely magical night in a scenically perfect location for a very special natural spectacle.
