Australia’s defence strategy aims for nation to ‘resist coercion’ in the future
Defence Minister Richard Marles says Australia's new defence strategy sits within the "10-year threat window", which must demand "urgency and focus" of the nation.
These comments followed questions about Australia’s conflict warning time and whether the nation’s nuclear submarines will be a bigger deterrent than their missile capacity.
Mr Marles has called for focus on newer capabilities that will enable us in the future to “resist coercion and maintain our way of life”.
“That is what we are trying to do with our defence force,” he added.
“Having nuclear powered submarines in the 2030s and beyond will be fundamentally important to that.
“They will be the single most important military platform to bear.”
