CHERRY HARVEST ON OUR PORTUGUESE FARM - REPAIRING AN ABANDONED PIG STY - HOMESTEAD SELF SUFFICIENCY

Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful girlfriend Mariana for six years now.

Together Mariana and I, along with my father Clinton and my brother in law Lloyd, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

In this episode we welcome you to join us in the Spring time as we begin the harvest of our early cherry varieties. We talk a little about how the weather has damaged a lot of the crop on the trees (late spring storms and hail) and how this means that we will be able to make some cherry wine and feed our livestock with the weather beaten fruit.

Lloyd and I go visit Fundão for the weekly Monday market and buy ourselves all the vegetable plug / transfers that we need to fill up the veg patch!

After this my father and I do some small repairs on an old abandoned pig sty at the very top of our land, making up some cement and filling the holes. All this is in preparation for our pigs which should be arriving very shortly! Our aim with the pigs is to produce some pasture reared pork for our family, friends and neighbours.

Right at the end of the video Mariana and I announce some very exciting news that we have been just dying to tell everyone, please wait until the very end to hear the reason behind all our smiles as of late!!!

See our journey to self sufficiency / permaculture / organic farming as expats living in Portugal, trying to produce as much of our own food planting vegetables, growing fruit trees as well as looking after all our animals, such as our chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, quail, rabbits and sheep - Shortly pigs too!
