Revelación: House Of The Rising Sun [Full Album] (1978)

French studio project Santa Esmeralda scored a mega-hit in the summer of 1977 with their unique interpretation of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. However, it all resulted in a court case where their lead singer Leroy Gomez and musical arranger Raymond Donnez "Don Ray" sided with Sam Choueka who had conceived the idea for the recording but saw none of the royalties of the millions the record made. Both Gomez and Donnez were subsequently dropped by Santa Esmeralda's production team who quickly recruited a new lead singer and a new musical director for their follow-up which had been planned to be a version of House Of The Rising Sun.

Don Ray was already working successfully with French disco king Cerrone and the two of them decided to get back at Santa Esmeralda's production team by recording their own version of House Of The Rising Sun in November 1977, and both versions - confusingly - hit the market in January 1978, Cerrone & Don Ray's project under the telling name Revelación and with the gritty vocals of lead singer Lawrence Rich. At the end of the day, Revelación's version was not as successful as Santa Esmeralda's. The group released another mini-album in 1979, Don't Give A Damn. 30 years later, Cerrone sampled House Of The Rising Sun on his 2008 recording Misunderstanding.
