The Ritchie Family: All Night, All Right [Full Album, Lyrics + Bonus] (1983)

"This is our best album ever!" raved Vera Brown enthusiastically before the release of All Night, All Right - The Ritchie Family's 9th and, as it turned out, final album, August 1983. Seconded Jacqui Smith-Lee: "Each album we have done has gotten better and better." The ladies made it no secret that they had immensely enjoyed the previous I'll Do My Best album, its mixture of R&B, funk and MOR tracks allowing them to stretch more as singers than they felt their 70s disco albums with Jacques Morali at the helm had done. All Night, All Right was produced by Gavin Christopher and Jimmy Douglas, and also marked the recording debut for the latest member Linda James who had replaced Dodie Draher who had gone on maternity leave. Gavin Christopher was a singer himself with album releases on Island (1976) and RSO (1979) and he later would enjoy a US hit single (Pop #22/R&B #25/Dance #9) in 1986 with One Step Closer To You. He passed away at the age of 66 in 2016. Co-producer Jimmy Douglas had worked with the likes of Odyssey and Slave. Other notable names involved in the recording was Nick Martinelli who mixed the first three tracks, Russian Boris Midney (producer of legendary disco albums by USA-European Connection and Beautiful Bend a.o.) mixed Fantasy, super session singer Diva Gray did vocal arrangements on the last two tracks, and the Village People's current lead singer, Miles J. Davis, duetted with the ladies on the track I Wanna Be Yours. With a slick, modern R&B sound, All Night, All Right was heralded by a single release of its title track (not to be confused with their previous single Alright On The Night from the I'll Do My Best album), but it only made a brief appearance on the R&B charts at #77, and no further single releases followed. Rumours of an unfinished 10th album, Rodeo Man, have turned out to be unfounded. By 1984, The Ritchie Family had quietly disbanded, leaving behind a glorious collection of 9 albums which I hope you have enjoyed listening to as much as I have enjoyed revisiting them and putting these album videos together for you.
