Change: This Is Your Time [Full Album] (1983)

Change's third album Sharing Your Love had not been quite the success the team was hoping for, so the pressure was on to deliver a strong album in 1983. Mauro Malavasi was by now feeling a burn-out after five intense years of writing and producing. He was missing Italy after spending most of his recent time in New York, so for the recording of This Is Your Time, he and Petrus returned to Italy. By this time, strained relations with Jacques Fred Petrus' managing style made two crucial key players, bass player Davide Romani and pianist Paolo Gianolio, leave the team too. More problems arose when lead singer James 'Crabs' Robinson wanted to go solo, and Rick Brennan was recruited as a new lead singer. However, when the record was being mixed in New York, Petrus got cold feet about Brennan's vocals, feeling they differed too much from James Robinson's style, so Robinson was eventually persuaded to come back, resulting in five of the tracks being re-recorded with his vocals. Only Got To Get Up and Stay'n Fit (cashing in on the aerobic craze of the time) retained Brennan's lead vocals. "Change returns stronger than ever with more hit material on their newest album," an Atlantic ad boasted. Unfortunately that was not quite the case. The album peaked at a disappointing #161 on the US Pop charts and #34 on R&B. The title track was issued as the title track and went #33 R&B/#39 Dance, while Don't Wait Another Night stalled at #89 R&B. In Europe, Magical Night was issued as a single and was a modest hit in Belgium where it reached #38. In the US, Got To Get Up was a third single release but did not chart. Mysteriously, arguably the album's highlight, the ballad Angel was not issued as a single anywhere. Similarly to Change's album, the 1983 albums for High Fashion (Make Up Your Mind) and B.B. & Q. Band's third album (Six Million Times) were even poorer sellers. Fortunately by 1984, Jacques Fred Petrus had a Change of Heart!
