Chapter 5-Snow Monkeys of Jigokudani, Japan

Japanese Macaques in Jigokudani have developed a taste for hot springs baths during the winter months. We stayed at the Korakukan Ryokan in Jigokudani, which means Hell Valley, a reference to the thermal springs in the valley. Japanese macaques became a tourist attraction when they started sharing the onsens (thermal spring feed soaking tubs) with humans. Eventually the humans built one especially for the Snow Monkeys.
