"Science-Based" Lifters Only
As ridiculous as some of this stuff looks, the “optimal science-based lifters” don’t really bother me.
At the end of the day, if you load the target muscle through its function with sufficient intensity and progression, it’ll grow.
Just don’t be trying to claim these elaborate setups are superior or necessary to maximize gains.
Similar to how volume, intensity, frequency (or even nutrition variables like calories and protein) all have a maximum ceiling where more isn’t better, exercise selection is no different.
Once a given lift ticks all the main boxes (proper movement pattern, sufficient stability, joint-friendly, loadable over time), it’s typically good enough to drive the majority of growth.
Tweaking it further and further past a certain point will have sharp diminishing returns, and eventually no returns at all.
If you just enjoy “creative” exercise variations then go ahead, but in terms of actual results it’s probably not doing much to move the needle.
