Train For YOUR Fitness Goals, Not Someone Else's

There’s no such thing as a single "ideal physique".

If you’re training on a regular basis and you’re taking care of your overall health and fitness, everything else is purely personal preference from there. Unless you have a practical use for a certain type of training, then your style of working out and the type of physique you strive for are your choice.

It’s absurd to tell someone that they should be bigger, or leaner, or that they should train like this and not like that.

Everyone is doing their own thing, and people will tend to put more importance on their own fitness goals and then project that onto others. They’ll try to convince other people that they should be doing the same thing so that they can feel good about what they’ve achieved and what they’re working toward.

But a lot of people take fitness and working out far too seriously, forgetting that it’s ultimately a tool for enhancing your overall life. Everyone has a different life, a different perspective and different goals.

Stop worrying about what other people are doing in the gym. Keep an open mind and don’t let other people, especially random people on the internet, put you on a path that deep down, you don’t want to be on. It’s ultimately a waste of time and effort.

If your actions are constantly being dictated by someone else, you’re reinforcing to yourself the idea that other people’s values are more valid than your own and that you don’t actually trust your own opinion. It’s normal to be influenced by others to a certain degree, but be conscious of what you’re doing and why.

My advice is to sit down and decide what you actually want: what training goals excite you, what type of look you prefer and why, what will actually benefit you in your day-to-day life and how all of this fits into your overall life. And remember that at the end of the day, no one actually cares about what you’re doing anyway, just like deep down, you don’t really care what anybody else is doing either.

Don’t put anyone on a pedestal just because they put fitness videos on YouTube – myself included.

The people on YouTube don’t have everything figured out, and they don’t necessarily know what’s best for you. If they’ve achieved a goal that you also want to achieve and they can inform you and motivate you, that’s great. But at the end of the day, you have to be the one to decide what’s best for you.
