Tawny Owls Adopt More Rescue Chicks 🦉🐥 | Luna & Bomber | Robert E Fuller

When I was handed three more rescued tawny owl chicks I decided to see if Bomber and Luna would adopt them. This tawny owl pair had already raised two foster chicks and were still feeding these owlets in the trees close to the nest, so it was worth a try.

Rescued tawny chicks

The rescued owlets were handed to me by Ryedale Rehabilitation, which is run by Jean Thorpe who works with me to release owls into the wild.

They are roughly the same age as Bomber & Luna's first adopted pair, Dawn & Dusk, and so I was expecting them to fledge quite soon and join Dawn & Dusk on the branches outside the nest. I hoped the adult birds would start feeding them alongside their other two, since I'm fairly certain tawny owls can't count

First rescue fledges

The first of the rescue chicks fledged that very night and Bomber, the adult male, didn't hesitate. He simply flew to the branch and gave the chick a meal.

Remaining owlets

The other two chicks are still in the nest. Neither Bomber nor Luna seem to be aware they are there, which is understandable since they don't really go into the nest now, but I will keep popping food in for them until they also fledge and then I hope the wild owls will take over their care.
