The city of Macao had hoped the Golden Week visitors would help bolster touristic activity in the region, as local media reported visitors were down as much as 80 percent from previous years.
Golden Week marks the week-long holiday commemorating the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Local tourists could be seen in the city's famous places, including the Church of St Paul and in the Galaxy Macao Resort casino on Monday.
Traditionally this is one of the busiest periods for Macao, one of the world's biggest casino hubs. However, strict international COVID-19 travel restrictions have made the number of tourists significantly dropped in the past few months.
The easing of the travel restriction for nationals on September 23 has allowed the city to attract more Chinese visitors.
"I have been here for two days and it feels good to be in Macao at this time. The place is clean and the people are really nice. It is not crowded compared to my last visit and it just feels comfortable," explained Ms Lin, a local tourist.
