Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the re-opening of two back-up coronavirus hospitals at the Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre and the Krylatskoye Ice Palace on Monday.

“These hospitals do not exist separately, they are part of the leading Moscow hospital structure in the fight against COVID-19. These clinics, these in-patient facilities provide necessary medical personnel for the backup hospitals. I hope they will work effectively and will save lives of many Moscow people,” Sobyanin said while visiting the Sokolniki facility.

Russian coronavirus taskforce confirmed 10,888 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, the highest daily tally since May 12.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Russia has registered 1,225,889 cases and 21,475 coronavirus-related deaths.
